Katugada Jamath Association: Achievements Since September 2020

The Katugada Jamath Association has taken significant steps to enhance the management and operations of the following institutions under its care:

1. Muhiyaddeen Jumma Masjid (MJM)
2. Hilr Masjid
3. Hajjiwaththa Dharga Shareef and Masjid
4. Quraan Madrasa
5. Katugada Jamath Association for Social Works

The key achievements and initiatives undertaken include:

General Infrastructure and Administrative Improvements
  • Establishment of an office and boardroom for effective administration.
  • Appointment of a Hafiz to lead Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr prayers.
  • Repair of the drainage system behind Muhiyaddeen Jumma Masjid.
  • Rewiring MJM for a three-phase power supply.
  • New safe installed to securely store masjid funds and documents, ensuring no funds are kept outside the masjid.
  • Computerized membership registration and issuance of digital membership cards.
Community Welfare and Assistance
  • Relief Fund Collection:
  • Raised Rs. 880,000 for families affected by the Colombo lockdown.
  • Provided financial assistance to COVID-affected widows and their families.
  • Supported flood victims with relief measures.
  • Zakat Fund Initiatives:
  • Funded self-employment opportunities, such as purchasing tuk-tuks and welding equipment.
  • Provided monthly subsidies to selected widows.
  • Financial assistance for education.
  • Employment Training: Conducted Korean language classes to enhance job opportunities.

Masjid Maintenance and Development

Muhiyaddeen Jumma Masjid (MJM)
  • Masjid Construction: Ground preparation and commencement of new masjid construction.
  • Surrounding Area Development:
  • New fences, gates, and lamps installed (funded by Hon. Marjan Faleel).
  • Environment upgraded to meet future masjid activity requirements.
  • Wheelchair accessibility and drive-through facility established, along with free wheelchair availability for members.
  • Water Facilities:
  • Installation of a 20,000-liter overhead water tank to ensure an uninterrupted supply.
  • Tube well dug for additional water requirements.
  • Educational Facilities:
  • Establishment of a ladies’ Quran Madrasa.
  • New tables provided for the madrasa.
  • Secure area allocated for the Ahadiyya school.
  • Tharawiyyah prayers conducted by a Hafiz with 30 Juzu during Ramadan.
Hilr Masjid
  • Burial Ground Maintenance:
  • Installed borders and fences around the Punchiwaththa burial ground.
  • Planted 100 coconut trees in the burial ground.
  • Added two secure gates to safeguard the area.
  • Refilling of old graves.
  • Infrastructure Development:
  • New shed built for grave digging.
  • Front parapet wall constructed with a secure gate (supported by the Weda Lakshayak program through Hon. Marjan Faleel MP).
  • Water tank and tube well installed to address water shortages.
Hajjiwaththa Dharga Shareef and Masjid
  • Toilet and Drainage System: Resolved long-standing issues with a permanent solution.
  • Historical Value Conservation:
  • Removed unnecessary trees to create a better environment.
  • Cleaned up rubbish and repaired the masjid roof (first time in 40 years).
  • Painted the masjid with support from the Muslim Cultural Department.
  • Signboards installed to emphasize the historical significance of the masjid.
  • Conducted a feast to raise awareness of the masjid’s heritage.

Social and Religious Activities

  • Regular Majlis and Amal: Continued conducting Jummah, daily prayers, Ramadan Kanii distribution, Qurbaan, madrasa events, and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) celebrations under strict health regulations.
  • Annual Festivities: Organized Muhiyaddeen flag hosting, Manakib, and Feast while adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.
  • Nikah Regulation Initiatives: Convened discussions with all marriage registrars in the village to establish a unified set of Nikah regulations.

Key Milestones

  • Land donation: Al Haji Razik Anver donated 6 perches of land in Mullawathttha to establish a Quran Madrasa.
  • Community Leadership: Appointed part-time staff in the masjid office to address community concerns.
  • Tenant Recovery Efforts: Took measures to recover old dues from tenants.

Through these efforts, Katugada Jamath Association has upheld its mission of serving the community and fostering the spiritual, social, and economic well-being of its members. These initiatives demonstrate our commitment to enhancing the facilities and services of our masjids and addressing the broader needs of our community.
